Virtual Workshop: From HR Data to Insight: People Analytics Foundations for HR

November 17 @ 6:30 pm - November 23 @ 8:30 pm

Program Overview

This guided pre-course gives HR professionals with little or no Power BI experience the practical foundation needed to use data with confidence.

Description

This guided pre-course gives HR professionals with little or no Power BI experience the practical foundation needed to use data with confidence. Through carefully paced instruction, hands-on practice and optional support, participants build a workforce report and use it to explore a decision-relevant question.

The goal is not to create data scientists. It is to equip HR professionals to combine what they already understand about people with analytical capabilities and the systems needed to make insight possible.

Course Design

  • Two, two-hour classes
  • Each class combines approximately one hour of guided instruction and demonstration with one hour of supported, hands-on practice
  • One prepared HR dataset and one report developed across both classes
  • Deliberately paced for participants with little or no Power BI experience

Class 1: Building a Clear People Analytics & Intelligence Report (Nov 17th 2026)

Purpose: build confidence in Power BI by creating clear data visualizations.

● Creating a headcount card, department chart and slicer

● Arranging and formatting visuals, titles and labels

Class outcome: a clear, one-page workforce overview that participants can navigate and explain.

Class 2: Exploring Workforce Questions and Communicating Insight (Nov 23rd 2026)

Purpose: use the data to explore a workforce question and communicate what the information means for a decision.

● Starting with a clear organizational or workforce question

● Using filters, slicers and sorting to explore the data

● Examining patterns in tenure, absence, location or employment type

● Distinguishing a metric, an observation and an insight

● Explaining what was observed, why it may matter and what should be examined next
