The (simplified) process to obtain and maintain the CPHR designation is as follows:

1. Make sure all nine Foundational Courses are satisfied. 
2. Become an Associate Member with CPHR NL
3. Write or waive the National Knowledge Exam to gain fulfil the educational requirements of CPHR designation
4. Gather experience and apply for Validation of experience to obtain the full CPHR designation
5. Maintain the designation by making sure to keep up with the membership fees and professional development requirements annually
