Membership Types:

Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Membership

Chartered Professionals in Human Resources members are those who are listed in the CPHR national registry and are maintaining their CPHR designation. CPHRs must maintain membership with a provincial member association of CPHR Canada to maintain their CPHR designation.

Membership includes the right to vote, hold elected office and access volunteering, professional development and networking opportunities.

Annual Fee: $345 + hst

Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Candidate Membership

CPHR Candidate – A Human Resource practitioner who has passed the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) and has been granted the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Candidate status. CPHR Candidates must maintain membership with a provincial member association of CPHR Canada to maintain their CPHR Candidate status and to have their progress documentation maintained.

Membership includes the right to vote, hold elected office and access volunteering, professional development and networking opportunities.

Annual Fee: $260 + hst

(Fee reduced by 50% for new members after June 30)

General Membership

Members who are currently in the practice of human resources or have a professional interest in the field of human resources and/or the mission of the Association.  . In this class of membership, members can also work towards their CPHR designation.

A General Membership includes the right to vote, hold elected office and take advantage of volunteering, professional development and networking opportunities. 

Annual Fee: $200 + hst

Special Discount for New Graduates

CPHR NL recognizes the importance for new post-secondary graduates to stay connected to their professional association at a time which can often be financially challenging as they start their career path. The Association thus offers a special one-time reduced membership fee for new graduates.  This special rate is available within one year of graduation. 

Graduation program eligibility includes:

  1. Any degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution;
  2. Any certificate or diploma program in Human Resources Management; or
  3. Internationally educated professionals in Human Resources enrolled in a career bridging program, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program at a recognized post-secondary institution or immigrant-serving agency.

Graduates must provide proof of graduation at the time of membership application.  Proof of graduation status can include either:

(i) an official transcript noting graduation status;
(ii) an official letter of confirmation of graduation; or
(iii) a copy of the graduation certificate. Please note all documentation must be on the institution’s official letterhead and include your name, program title and time of graduation.

New Graduate Annual Fee (One Time): $50 + hst

Special Discount for Participants of Gardiner Centre’s HR Program               

CPHR NL and the Gardiner Centre at Memorial University of Newfoundland have entered into a partnership to collaborate on professional development and career building opportunities for human resources professionals.  As part of this arrangement, a special one-time Association membership discount is available for participants enrolled in the Gardiner Centre’s Strategic Human Resources Management Program. Program participants must provide proof of enrollment at the time of application, which can include either an unofficial transcript, confirmation of current registration or a letter confirming enrollment details. Please note all documentation must be on the institution’s official letterhead and include your name, program title and course details.

Student Membership

Student membership is available to individuals who are either:

  1. Enrolled in full-time or part-time studies, with two or more courses per semester, in any degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution;
  2. Enrolled in a continuing education program, taking two or more courses per semester toward a certificate or diploma in Human Resources Management (Captus Press Academic Program courses do not qualify); or
  3. Internationally educated professionals in Human Resources enrolled in a career bridging program, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program at a recognized post-secondary institution or immigrant-serving agency.

Students must provide proof of enrollment and/or employment as applicable.  Proof of current student status must be supplied at time of application and renewal. Proof of current student status is either an unofficial transcript, confirmation of current registration or a letter confirming enrollment details. Please note, all documentation must be on the institution’s official letterhead and include your name, program title and course details.

All privileges of membership are included except the right to vote or to hold elected office. Student Members are eligible to apply for the Chartered Human Resources Professional (CPHR) designation and gain CPHR candidate or full CPHR Membership.

Retired Professionals Membership

Retired membership is open to individuals who were members in good standing of the Association, or transferred into the Association, and who are now fully retired from the workforce but have an interest in the mandate of CPHR NL. Retired members do not have voting privileges and are not eligible to serve in Board positions, however they are eligible to serve on committees and volunteer in various initiatives of the organization

Annual Fee: $75 + hst

Business Partner Membership

Business Partner Members are organizations that recognize the impact HR has on business outcomes. This membership provides organizations the opportunity to demonstrate to the business community that they support the HR profession while strengthening their own business opportunities.
