2024 HR Symposium

CPHR NL is hosting a full-day symposium on June 7, 2024 at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s. The theme of this year’s symposium is “The Evolution of HR in a Dynamic World”. Last year’s symposium was a great success and we plan to make this event bigger and better.
Registration will begin at around 8:15am and the speakers will start at 9am and the symposium will go on until around 4pm.
We are pleased to confirm the following speakers:

- Ogaga Johnson, Director of Workforce Development, econext
- Steve Greene, Vice President – Digital Health and Chief Information Officer, NL Health Services
- Brad Glynn – Executive Director, Lifewise (formerly CHANNAL)
The Registration fee is: $225 for CPHR NL Members; $275.00 for Non-members; and $120.00 for Students. Individuals registering by May 29th qualify for the Early Bird discount of $40.
For those with their CPHR designation, attendance at the Symposium is worth 6 CPD points.
Symposium will also feature a round table discussion segment in which attendees will have the opportunity to partake in guided discussions on HR hot topics
including: Toxic Workplaces, Change Management, Pay and Compensation Transparency, and Diversity.

About the speakers:
Brad Glynn
Brad Glynn is the Executive Director of Lifewise (formerly CHANNAL), a provincial mental health and addictions charity that is staffed by people with lived experience. Through his position at Lifewise, Brad serves on numerous Boards, committees, and working groups including End Homelessness St. John’s and the Network of Disability Organizations. He supports the amazing team at Lifewise in reducing stigma and providing hope for people with lived experience through peer support services, public education activities, and policy consultation.
Before Lifewise, Brad worked as an Educator for over a decade. During this time, he advocated passionately for increasing mental health and social-emotional learning in classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 12. He worked extensively with teachers in multiple provinces, providing professional development and keynote sessions on the value of teaching children about reflection, empathy, and boundaries, in the development of strong mental wellness.
Meghan Felt
Meghan Felt is an Immigration Lawyer based in McInnes Cooper’s
St. John’s, N.L. office. Meghan advises and represents clients on a
variety of Canadian immigration issues, ranging from individuals seeking
temporary resident visas, study permits, work permits and permanent
residency, to large corporations seeking labour market impact
assessments and work permits to hire foreign workers. Meghan has
extensive experience with obtaining work permits under the International
Mobility Program and other international agreements, including CUSMA and
GATS. Well respected for her immigration law knowledge, Meghan
frequently writes legal knowledge pieces on new developments in
immigration legislation and policy, and regularly provides updates for
the Atlantic Province chapters of Thomson Reuters® Practical Guide to
Provincial Nominee Programs in Canadian Immigration Law. Meghan is
ranked in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory.
Steve Greene
Steve Greene is the vice president – digital health and chief information officer at NL Health Services. Steve has 27 years of progressive career experience in the private and public sectors. In his role, Steve is responsible for the access and privacy office, cyber security, health information management, information technology, eDocsNL, clinical e-health programs, pharmacy network, virtual care, data and information services and the provincial project management office. Steve is leading the 660m health information system project that will transform and modernize NL Health Services clinical and technology environments.
Prior to this, Steve held the positions of chief information officer, chief data officer and director of IT services at Memorial University. He started his career in the private industry and worked for many years in Manhattan, NY.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science (double major in Computer Science and Statistics) and a Master’s in Education (Information Technology) from Memorial University. Over his career, he has held many professional designations and certifications in project management, business continuity and change management.
Steve is originally from Placentia and enjoys sports, volunteering and travelling with his wife, Trina.
Ogaga Johnson
Ogaga Johnson is a dynamic project management leader, speaker, and workforce development expert. As the Director of Workforce Development at econext, she spearheads innovative initiatives equipping the current workforce and preparing the future workforce for the blue/green economy. Ogaga is also the founder of Verisult, a forward-thinking company that prepares immigrants for the workforce and helps organizations implement their workforce strategies. As a seasonal and guest lecturer, she imparts knowledge to students at universities and colleges, and as a global professional, Ogaga brings a wealth of experience across three continents.
Beyond her professional pursuits, she is a devoted disciple of Christ and embraces her role as a wife, and mother of her two children. She enjoys travelling with her family.
Ogaga is a powerhouse dedicated to making a positive impact.
AGM and Symposium Social
Please join us at the Crow’s Nest Officer’s Club on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 6:30 pm for the HR Symposium Social and CPHR NL AGM. This event will is free and will be a great opportunity to network with the provincial HR community prior to the HR Symposium. The Crow’s Nest is located on 88 Water Street, St. John’s and you can find the entrance by walking up the stairs next to the war memorial.
