SUMMARY:Avoid Retention Landmines with Employee Financial Wellness Tools
DESCRIPTION:2023-11-14\n\n\nWhen:\nNovember 14\, 2023\n10:00am – 11:30am\n\n\nWhere:\nCPHR Nova Scotia Training Room\n84 Chain Lake Drive\nSuite 103\nHalifax\, Nova Scotia  B3S1A2\nCanada\n\n\nPresenter:\nStephanie Holmes-Winton\, Founder\, CacheFlo\n\n\nContact:\nevents@cphrns.ca\n\n\n\n \n \nSession Topic\nFinancially-stressed employees are 2x times as likely to be looking for a new job. It’s a retention landmine- but it doesn’t have to be that way! \nIt can cost between 150% and 400% of an annual salary to replace mid-level to high-level employees\, so turnover can be a fiscal nightmare for any company\, especially when costs are already so high. Employees leaving the company can also lower the morale of the entire group\, especially if a few people are leaving at a time\, or turnover is becoming more frequent. \nA pension\, group RRSP\, or health benefits are important to help employees make the most of their resources\, but these alone will not create the financial wellness employees need. \nEAP programs are great for employees in crisis\, but it won’t help the average employee improve their finances.  And spoiler alert- even senior employees and those with higher salaries get into financial pickles!  Even presentations from the pension provider won’t cover the most frequent financial pains like cash flow and debt. \nMore than half of employees are likely to be interested in leaving their current employer for one who cares about their financial health; it’s even worse for those who are stressed out by their finances. According to PwC\, 73% of financially stressed employees say they would be attracted to another employer that cares more about their financial well-being compared to just 54% of non-financially stressed employees. \nLearn more about this retention power tool: \n\nHow financial stress undermines your retention efforts\nHow to evaluate your workplace’s financial education needs\nStrategies to get CEOs and other leadership on board with financial wellness efforts\nHow to leverage existing programs to show your care about your team’s financial health\nMeasuring financial health trends across your employee group\nWhy financial wellness must go beyond EAP programs to be impactful\nUsing your financial wellness innovations to become an employer of choice\n\n  \n \nAbout the Facilitator\n \nAfter a decade working as an independent financial advisor\, Stephanie Holmes-Winton started CacheFlo\, a fintech education company that creates tools and eLearning for financial professionals and employee financial wellness programs. \nLike most of us\, Stephanie is more excited about spending than saving (and has little time for budgets of any kind)\, so she built an innovative\, at-your-fingertips app called Winton that helps accumulate savings\, even as you pay for “real life.” Earlier this year\, she rebranded her in-demand Employee Financial Wellness Programs as Real Life Money. This digital\, behavior-based program teaches employees everything they need to know and do to become financially capable and in control of their own finances. \nStephanie also created an accredited Certified Cash Flow Specialist (CCS) program for Financial Advisors to help their own clients manage their cash flow.  Yes\, she’s an advisor to advisors!  \nStephanie has written two books on spending and debt: Defusing the Debt Bomb\, and $pent. She’s also been a regular contributor in media\, including CBC Radio and CTV\, and her advice has been featured in publications and podcasts from coast to coast. \n  \n \nPricing\n\n\n\nMembers\nFREE \n$20 refundable deposit required\n\n\n Non-members\n $20\n\n\n\n  \n  \nWhile it is on-site in Halifax\, members from out-of-province are welcome to attend virtually. There is a $20 deposit to hold the seat\, but we will refund that for all members who register and attend. All members simply need to choose the ticket that has “MEMBER REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT”  in the title\, this is how we’ll know who to refund. \nMembers do not get the refund if they do not attend the session after registering.

SUMMARY:CPHR Atlantic Webinar: Understanding the Relationship Between Health\, Work and Worklessness FREE
DESCRIPTION:Description \nPeople are warned all the time of workplace hazards but not so much about the health hazards of not working. When an individual is off work due to illness or injury\, there can be significant negative impacts to both physical and psychological health and wellbeing.  The Canadian Medical Association’s Policy Statement from 1997 stated “prolonged absence from one’s normal roles\, including absence from the workplace\, is detrimental to a person’s mental\, physical and social well-being.” Additionally\, research has found that the relative risk of increased mortality for being unemployed is greater that that of diabetes\, hypertension\, smoking\, obesity\, or poverty. Worklessness is also associated with increased rates of suicide\, obesity\, heart attack\, depression\, alcohol consumption\, illicit drug use\, and more. \nWe need to help workers\, employers\, physicians\, healthcare providers\, and others understand the importance of stay-at-work and/or return-to-work.  We also need to change the thinking that the workplace is a harmful environment when a person has an illness or injury. It is usually in the worker’s best interest to remain in the workforce.   Returning to work as soon as possible after an illness or injury must be encouraged. When an individual is removed from the work environment for a prolonged time\, serious and often long-lasting adverse events can occur.  \nThis presentation will cover the connection between health and work\, the detrimental effects of worklessness and what employers can do to support workers and remove barriers to return to work. \nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand the relationship between health\, work and worklessness.\nUnderstand why it is usually in the worker’s best interest to remain in the workforce.\nUnderstand what employers can do to support early and safe return to work and remove barriers. \n\n  \nDallas Mercer\, President and CEO\, Dallas Mercer Consulting \n \nDallas Mercer is the President and CEO of Dallas Mercer Consulting (DMC). She founded DMC in 2002\, growing it into a nationally recognized leader providing workers’ compensation\, sick leave and occupational health and safety services to employers. Her team now includes nearly 50 employees with offices in Nova Scotia\, Newfoundland\, and New Brunswick.\n \nDallas holds a Bachelor’s degree from Memorial University and is a long-standing member of the Wallace McCain Institute. She has completed seminars in “Leading High Growth Business” (Harvard Business School)\, “Certificate in Disability Case Management” (Dalhousie University) and “Alternate Dispute Resolution” (Windsor Law School). \n \nDallas’s list of awards and accolades is impressive. In 2023\, she was named by Atlantic Business Magazine as one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Business. In 2022\, she was inducted into Atlantic Business Magazine’s Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame\, and in 2020\, she received the Canada Innovation & Entrepreneurship Woman Entrepreneur Award (CANIE).   In 2019\, at the 27th Annual St. John’s Board of Trade Business Excellence Awards\, Dallas received the Marketing and Promotional Achievement award as well as the Business Excellence Award.  Also in 2019\, she was named the Wallace McCain Institute’s “Carpe Diem” Award winner for Alumni of the Year. Atlantic Canada Business Magazine has recognized Dallas as a Top 50 CEO in 2017\, 2018 and 2019.   Dallas and DMC won the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) RBC Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence in 2015. She was named one of the Top Ten Business Leaders to Watch by Atlantic Business Magazine in 2012\, a year in which DMC also won the St. John’s Board of Trade Business Excellence Award for Growth in Sales and she received NLOWE’s Innovation Award.\n \nDallas’ passion and vision extend beyond the drive to represent employers. Her education and advocacy include workers’ compensation boards as well. She regularly engages with key industry leaders to analyze the needs and gaps\, and to challenge the status quo and find new ways to increase positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
